Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D) is about supporting poor and marginalized communities to make use of ICTs to improve the quality of their lives. Wisely used, ICT is an important tool for socioeconomic development and ultimately poverty reduction; it strengthens democracy and transparency, empowers people to make their own decisions and increases income by giving unprivileged people access to essential market information and new opportunities.
