Overview: Students

Part of our mission is to strengthen the capacity of the resource base in Sweden. This is done both by awareness raising and knowledge sharing through organizing workshops and conferences in thematic areas within ICT for development, but also by introducing post graduate students to ICT4D.

SPIDER took the initiative to develop and implement a 7,5 ECTS credits distance course in ICT4D with e-learning, e-health, and e-governance as major components. Participants of this course were both from developing countries and Europe. In 2006 the course was transformed into a full Master programme given by Stockholm University. The two-year programme is intended for students and professionals who would like to broaden and deepen their knowledge of ICT, its management and
application to the developing world.

In order to assist projects in developing countries with on-the-ground short-term assistance SPIDER has together with an international student organization, AIESEC, introduced a Junior ICT expert program.

Further, a network for PhD students in ICT4D has been running since 2006. PhD students are given opportunities to interact with each other, to share information and knowledge, to learn from each other's work and research as well as learn from ICT4D practitioners and development personnel. The PhD Network is jointly run by Karlstad and Örebro Universities.
